John DeWald Compass Box
Cherry top and bottom – The engraved passage is, in part, from the book of Joshua (“and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, then you shall set out from your place and go after it. Do not come near it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go, for you have not passed this way before.”)…I thought it very appropriate for a compass both in looking to the compass and the lord for direction should one find themselves in a situation of needing both for guidance.

Scott Morrison Koo Koo Sint Horn
The “Koo Koo Sint” horn is a Lehigh County style horn that traveled with the David Thompson Columbia River Brigade during the summer of 2011. David Thompson was an explorer for the Northwest Company and canoed through Canada and down the Columbia River to what is now Astoria in 1811. The Brigade was a Canadian/US commemoration of the 200th year anniversary of Thompson’s trip. This horn traveled down the Columbia River from Vancouver Washington to Astoria Oregon. The strap on the Koo Koo Sint horn is one that Kris Polizzi wove.

Jeff Bibb Southwest Virginian Pouch and Horn
This is a classic SW-VA pouch (in lined goatskin), along with a matching horn. The horn is about 12 – 12.5″ around the curve, and about 2.5″ wide at the base. Also very translucent at the back, so he can see the powder pretty well in the light. The base plug is pine, and hollowed almost all the way back to the end, so it has great capacity. The coloring moves from black to grayish green, to yellow to translucent brown.

John Proud Dutchy Horn
This horn is patterned after one in a rural New York Historical Society’s collection. George Herder served in the Revolutionary War and Claverack is located in New York’s Hudson River valley. The town’s history goes back to the Dutch settlement period. The horn’s decoration is a interesting combination of “Dutchy” themes ( hearts and flowers) and what I consider Native American themes (a turtle carapace? and wampum?). Then add the Christian theme of the fish! A lot of well thought out and displayed symbolism, along with an owners name, location and date. The original horn had a plain low domed base plug. I chose to add a chip carved design in the “Dutchy” tradition.
